New Theme

December 23rd, 2007 by Tabatha

I got a pretty new theme. I gave up on making my own… for now. Interestingly enough, the one I was working on was green and featured birds. This one beats the one I was working on BY FAR!

I tried to make pretty potato rollup candy today for xmas presents, but it ended up being brown potato candy sticky balls. I bet they’re still delicious! They’re getting hard in the fridge.

I’m going to make my mom a pillow star. I think she’ll like that. I’ve never made on, so I hope I can get through it. It looks super easy.

Peanut Butter Fudge w/Walnuts

Last night, I made peanut butter fudge for the first time ever. In fact, it was the first time ever making any kind of candy. It’s delicious. It’s got this soft powdery texture and I added walnuts for more texture and it’s OH SO DELICIOUS. It was a little disturbing how much of that stuff is actually just sugar.

INGREDIENTS:

  • 2 cups sugar (half brown sugar if desired)
  • 1/2 cup evaporated milk
  • 2 tablespoons light corn syrup
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 cup peanut butter
  • 1/2 to 1 cup chopped pecans or walnuts, optional

PREPARATION:

Mix sugar, salt, syrup and milk in pan. Bring to boil slowly. Cook until small amount forms soft ball in cold water, about 235° on a candy thermometer. Remove from heat, add peanut butter and vanilla.

After that, they don’t really tell you. You can pretty much do whatever you want, but HURRY! It starts to solidify pretty quickly. I just plopped it onto some foil with powdered sugar and mini chocolate chips. Next time I’m going to make individual little blobs. This is by far one of the easiest things I’ve ever made. Especially since I thought it would be one of the hardest. Tell me why NO ONE told me this stuff was easy to make. I’ve got ideas for so many different types of candies now.

Kids Fighting Over Candy

December 8th, 2007 by Tabatha

Today was the downtown Christmas Parade. Only Gary, Seth and I were going to go, but I talked to Tiffy online right before I was about to get off and dry my hair to leave. So I got to go kidnap her and bring her with us. Seth seemed to have more fun than he has at other parades. He used to just sit there and stare with a blank look on his face. This time he seemed at least slightly excited. It was crazy how many parade cups he got, though.

There weren’t as many floats as there have been before. Less marching bands, too. I could seriously watch marching bands for hours and hours and hours. I’ll attach some photos of the parade at the end of this post. That will include a band director in a tight silver costume dancing right along with the band’s dance team. Hilarious. He was definitely the star of the parade.

it was good to actually get to spend more than a few minutes with Tiffy, too. Over the past few years, I’ve seen her a couple of times, but I don’t ever get to stay around long. Since it was a parade and Seth was there, we didn’t really get to hang out much, but it was still nice. She lives nearby, too, so that’s even better. It’s good timing because I’ve been feeling really lonely lately outside of Gary and Seth.
